Writing Shadow Places with Frances Grimshaw (September 3rd, 6pm)
Shadow places are the obscured impacts of our everyday lives. They are the wrecking yards, sand mines, bleached reefs, sticky drains and rubbish dumps we are tied to through consumption. Through a poetry practice, this workshop invites us to extend ourselves towards these places and asks: what does writing shadow places do? Please bring your preferred writing materials, your phone or laptop, and an everyday object you’re interested in.
Collapse upon the Border with Shiv Gill (September 14th)
A discussion navigating the geographical, temporal and emotional terrain of social struggle. How do the many residual things we feel as part of our resistance—joy, love, despair, desire, communalism, hate, the fucking all-too-fleeting tastes of liberation—impact the ways we conceive of the passing of time or measure the momentum of movements? This will be an interactive workshop, bring yourself and your experiences of the joy + despair (& all the rest) of struggle.
Degrowth & Collapse with Degrowth Network Australia (September 24th)
A workshop exploring degrowth as it informs our response to collapse and our navigation of a finite, collapsing biosphere. Facilitated by members of Degrowth Network Australia.
Encountering Collapse with Colm McNaughton (October 5th)
What does it mean to encounter collapse, not simply as systemic breakdown(s), but as an ancestor? How might reconnecting with practices and understandings of different traditions inform us in navigating the intersecting crises that we are? This seminar will draw on Gaelic animist tradition as well as Marxism to help us reflect and re-imagine the path we are walking.
Stories and Resistance in times of Crisis with Benjamin Gready (October 15th)
Who is telling the stories of our age? Who profits and who is harmed by them? An exploration of discourse during crisis, hegemony and the need to confront regressive, reactionary narratives. Beyond this, how producing our own can be the basis for expanding possibilities and building radical and durable change.
