(Dis)solution creates and publishes work to unravel the knots of injustice in the post-end-of-history Anthropocene. It turns a critical eye to the machinations of exploitation at the intersections of politic, culture, and ecology, and the crisis and contradiction that follows. (Dis)solution believes in work that analyzes our world without insularity, work that informs our everyday-political movement through the eroding topographies of the 21st century—not merely to understand it, but to change it.

(Dis)solution Ethos

(Dis)solution is a platform and network for creating and sharing ideas that confront the paradigms of our age and empower us to act directly to radically refashion the world. It is born out of a need for radical, critical thought and expression, particularly from emerging writers, artists and activists which challenges the catastrophic, ecocidal structures of the 21st century.

It begins from the premise that the world as it currently exists cannot continue, that change is necessary for survival. We believe that this change must be rooted in collective grassroots action against capitalism, domination and exploitation, and towards collective justice and shared flourishing. Crucially, we recognise that all human actions are inextricably tied to the biosphere and the webs of life within it.

We are committed to moving with intention and urgency, to distinguishing the false solutions—of which there are no shortage—from the genuine ones, and to dissolving what no longer serves us.

(Dis)solution aims to collaboratively create and share the emancipatory ideas needed to navigate our epoch. Through this, we seek to dissolve the false binary of theory and action. Analysis is crucial, but must be paired with action. Similarly, our work on the ground is necessarily informed by deep consideration. Our project is not one of analysis for analysis’ sake, but of creating ideas which stand a chance at helping us.

Simultaneously, this project is opposed to intellectualising as outside of or above communities. We commit to attending to and undoing hierarchies of knowledge and elevating the voices of those with direct experience, people doing frontline work of all kinds, and those who might face barriers to publication elsewhere. We reject knowledge as a commodity for passive consumption and instead seek to embody collective creation, dissolving the false binary of student and teacher, educated and uneducated, thinker and labourer.

We aim for the thoughts, ideas, and actions expressed in our work to be widely accessible, both in their readability and distribution—emancipatory ideas that are shrouded in esoteric jargon are self-contradictory. Ideas are for sharing and we will ensure that ours are always freely available.

(Dis)solution does not and will not make profit.

Everything we create is freely accessible and print issues are pay-as-you-feel—liberation will not be pay-walled. All money from sales goes towards creating the magazine, offering support to contributors, and to other project costs like website hosting. Members of the organising collective are not paid for their work.

Decisions are made by consensus within the organising collective. This collective draws on a wide network of collaborators and contributors to create this work.

We commit to reflexivity, adaptability, and ongoing vigilance with regard to mistakes, missteps, political co-option, and recuperation. This ethos is intended as a guide for the project to stay rooted in its formative values as it develops over time.
